"A friend of mine participated in the skydive last year for the Chilterns MS Centre and had a fantastic time and I wanted to do something out of the ordinary and physical whilst I am still able to".

Art Exhibition 2009
Our fourth annual Art Exhibition for 2009 was held on Sat 7th & Sun 8th March. We were very kindly sponsored by local company TEVA Pharmaceuticals.

We are delighted to report that in total we raised a fantastic £10,700* (Dagny appears to be selling various pieces of art still at the Centre). We are truly indebted to all of the artists who exhibited their work and all of the artists who kindly came to talk to potential purchasers over the two days. In addition thanks to our fabulous tea & cakes volunteers – both bakers and servers who did a first rate job under difficult circumstances. Incredibly we made £1100 in tea / cake sales alone. Last but not least thank you to all the volunteers who made the whole weekend possible... it’s impossible to single them out but we must say a special thanks to Dagny whose idea the exhibition has been since the beginning and without whose enthusiasm and drive it wouldn’t happen. Thanks Dagny.

*£10,700 shows an increase of £1700 over last year; incredible in this time of credit crunch!!

Other Challenges

Arctic Survival Challenge (Sweden)
Trip Grade: Tough
1st - 8th March 2008 & 1st - 8th February 2009
www.discoveradventure.com

Can you imagine yourself surviving in a winter wilderness environment, miles from anywhere? This once-in-a-life time challenge takes us to northern Sweden and combines the chance to adapt to, and live in, the Artic environment and satisfy your survival instinct!
We participate in husky driving, ice fishing, trapping, hunting, fire lighting, building shelters and snow-holes, cross-country skiing - to name but a few. We are unlikely to see any people other than ourselves and the occasional local people we visit.

This is your chance to experience the thrill of sailing a wonderful classic 46ft yawl racing boat! Joining a professional skipper and mate, you and your fellow challengers will sail from Poole to the Channel Islands. Musketeer, built in 1963, has sleek lines and is built of Honduras mahogany; a truly traditional boat. She is fast but needs working by her crew - and that's where you come in!

Trek The Great Wall
Trip Grade: Moderate
17th - 27th April & 16th - 26th Oct 2008
16th - 26th April / 24th Sept - 4th Oct / 15th - 25th Oct 2009
www.discoveradventure.com

Stretching 6000km in a dotted line across China, the Great Wall was begun in the 5th Century BC. As it snakes across the mountains it conjures up a sense of history which is difficult to grasp until you have had the opportunity to experience it.
Our trek is very varied, as we pass through woodland and terraced farmland, and follow the contours of the beautiful hills and mountains in remote areas north of Beijing. We follow old sections of the Great Wall, as well as restored sections with smooth flagstones and lots of steps!
This challenge is physically demanding and offers fabulous scenery and a fascinating insight into a rich culture and history.

Hadrian's Wall Trek Trip Grade: Tough
6th - 8th June & 8th - 10th August 2008
5th - 7th June & 7th - 9th August 2009
www.discoveradventure.com

Hadrian’s Wall originally ran from coast to coast and spanned 72 miles. Today we are left with only sections of this famous landmark, which cuts though the beautiful Northumberland National Park.
Starting at Lanercost Priory, we trek for 25 miles alongside the only remaining sections of the wall, admiring ancient monuments, beautiful scenery and the skill of the Roman engineers who built this famous landmark, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We camp at a lovely campsite just outside the small town of Haltwhistle.
