* The first £1 million of our fund will be provided in the form of the new building provided after protracted negotiations as a ‘community gain’ by the developer, for which we are very grateful.

** £1,139,650 this total includes a £20,000 pledge not yet received

Very exciting news!
The current Chilterns MS Centre (CMSC) site has been sold by Defence Estates to a residential developer (Kingsoak/Barratt) and is being developed for residential use. We are very excited that the outline planning permission provides for the construction of a new Centre.

A deed has been entered into by CMSC and Kingsoak under which Kingsoak have agreed to relocate the Centre to a new custom-built centre near to the present site by 2009. The deed provides for the construction by Kingsoak of a Centre of 600 sq m size at a cost to Kingsoak of £950K.

The new Centre will give us the chance to provide even better and more services to our members and their families and friends.

We hope you have fun looking at the proposed plans: please note that the internal design especially is indicative only. If you want to make any comments or suggestions please contact the Centre either on 01296 696133 or by email, info@chilternsmscentre.org

For example we will have:

a larger general treatment area, with a designated gym area; more space, more equipment to suit all abilities

specific treatment rooms, away from the general treatment area; more privacy if required

a different size and more modern HDOT chamber (and we are actively considering whether a second chamber would be beneficial at a future date)

a “social” area – a bigger designated area for friends, carers and family members to meet, talk and have a cuppa

an improved and larger kitchen area to prepare and clear up drinks

two larger management offices, at last room to help more than one person at a time!

a larger records room for physiotherapy staff plus a staff changing area

We intend to have space upstairs as well:

multipurpose treatment rooms for new treatments (podiatry, speech therapy, occupational therapy). More space, more services to make our patients visit better

a seminar room to run courses on a variety of MS related topics for patients, carers and social workers plus an area for CPD [continuing professional development]

improved storage facilities

With these requirements and possibilities in mind the Trustees anticipate the construction of a new purpose-built Centre of 1000 sq m which will require raising additional funding by CMSC of approximately £500,000 (the amount is indicative at present).
The new Centre will comprise a 2-storey building of 1000 sq m compared with the present building area of 250 sq m. It will be a purpose-built facility catering for the treatment of PWMS and will be furnished and equipped with the needs of PWMS in mind.
